My Score for Lottie Dottie Chicken – The Movie Comes to the Big Screen
Today was a very special day. Lottie Dottie Chicken – The Movie (Galinha Pintadinha – O Filme) had its premiere in São Paulo, Brazil, and after four months working on the orchestral score, I finally had the opportunity to experience the finished film on the big screen — surrounded by the filmmakers, their families, guests, and a full audience.
The premiere took over three packed movie theaters, all filled with invited guests. Seeing the audience react to the story — laughing, getting quiet during the tense moments, and connecting with the emotional ones — was incredibly rewarding.
And I have to say: the film looks beautiful.
This is a Brazilian animated feature created on a truly ambitious scale, involving a team of more than 400 people. The level of animation, storytelling, sound, and overall production is something everyone involved should be very proud of. It is exciting to see an animated film of this scale being made in Brazil.
From YouTube to the Big Screen
For Brazilian families, Galinha Pintadinha — internationally known as Lottie Dottie Chicken — is an icon. Created by Juliano Prado and Marcos Luporini in 2006, she grew from an early YouTube success into one of Brazil’s most beloved children’s characters, becoming part of the childhood of millions of kids over the past two decades.
Now, that universe comes to the big screen with Lottie Dottie Chicken – The Movie, a full cinematic adventure for the whole family. The film brings the beloved characters into a much larger story filled with adventure, humor, emotion, tension and courage — while exploring themes of family, love and facing our fears.
Hearing the Score in a Movie Theater
For me personally, one of the most emotional moments of the premiere was hearing the score in a real movie theater for the first time.
I spent four months composing the orchestral score for the film, writing music for everything from intimate and emotional moments to comedy, tension, danger and large-scale adventure.
I had heard these cues hundreds of times in my studio while composing, orchestrating and working through every detail. But there is something completely different about hearing that music coming through a cinema sound system — big, powerful and surrounding you — while watching the finished animation on a huge screen.
It was one of those moments when months of work suddenly become real.
It was also a pleasure to work on the music alongside Marcos Luporini, co-creator and co-director of Lottie Dottie Chicken, who is also behind the songs featured throughout the film.
Meeting the People Behind Lottie Dottie Chicken
Another special part of the evening was finally getting to meet in person Juliano Prado and Marcos Luporini, the creators of Lottie Dottie Chicken and directors of the film.
After spending so much time working on a project remotely, there is something special about finally being together in the same room and celebrating what everyone created.
I also had the chance to spend time with Thiago Jacot, the film's executive producer. Thiago was actually the first person from the production to contact me about joining the film, so standing together at the premiere felt like bringing the experience full circle — from that first conversation to seeing the finished movie on a theater screen.
I am very grateful to the entire team for trusting me with the music for such an important project.
And on a personal level, I was especially happy that my parents could be there with me to experience this moment.
A Film for the Whole Family
One of the things I enjoyed most about watching the finished film with an audience is that it truly works as a family movie.
Children who already love Lottie Dottie Chicken will recognize the characters and musical world they grew up with, but the movie takes them somewhere much bigger.
There is adventure. There is comedy. There are genuinely tense moments. There is emotion. And there is a story about family, courage and caring for others.
For parents who know Lottie Dottie Chicken mainly from the songs and videos their children have watched over the years, I think the scale of the movie may be a wonderful surprise.
It feels like a real cinematic adventure.
I am incredibly proud to have contributed my music to it — and very proud to see an animated feature of this scale created in Brazil.
